Procedures at the Ministry of Agriculture’s (MOA) - Veterinary department
Procedures for the permanent import of Horses into Jordan:
- The MOA will check the blood tests that were done in the country of export
- Each imported horse must be microchipped
- The horse must have a valid Passport (whether Jordanian or International) with valid and up to date vaccinations (to learn more about vaccinations see ‘other important info’ below)
- You must issue an import license by filling out the Import application form (found at the veterinary department of the MOA)
- You must issue a quarantine document from the veterinary department which states how long the horses must be quarantined for
- You must issue a quarantine document after the quarantine period is complete so that horses can be inspected by MOA officials, and released to their final destination
- A blood sample needs to be taken by an official vet from the MOA. The following tests are required: Glanders, Dourine, EIA, AHS, EVA (for stallions only), and any other tests requested according to updated OIE rules
- Imported horses must have a certificate of origin and a valid health certificate from the country of export
Procedures for the temporary import of horses into Jordan:
(for horses coming to participate in Jordanian equestrian events)
- The MOA will check the blood tests that were done in the country of export
- Each horse must be microchipped
- The horse must have a valid Passport (whether Jordanian or International) with valid and up to date vaccinations especially the influenza vaccine
- You must fill in an application for a permit for temporary import (found at the vet. Department of the MOA)
- A document from the RJEF (with details of the horses, the name, date and location of the event) is needed. Please request this via email: rjefoffice@rjef.org
- You must issue a ‘participation permit’ from the Directorate of License and point of entry centers (at the MOA).
- You will need to bring the Health certificate from the country of export
- You will be issued a document about where and for how long your horses will be quarantined
- After the competition is over, you will need to issue a health certificate from the veterinary department at the MOA. You might be asked to re-test your horses for any diseases (if the country your horses are going back to require that)
- You will be issued a document to release your horses from quarantine. Please note, your horses will leave the quarantine and have to be on their immediate route out of Jordan.
Procedures for the permanent export of horses:
- Book an appointment with the veterinary department so that their official vets can come to your horses to withdraw blood samples
- Bring along copies of the horse’s passports and their microchip numbers
- Issue a permit for permanent export from the Directorate of License and point of entry centers (at the MOA)
- The horses will be quarantined for a period of time that is set by the country that you are exporting your horse to. The vet dept will issue a quarantine document that contains these details. If the country you are exporting your horse to does not require that your horse be quarantined at an official quarantine facility, then your horse will need to be monitored for a specified period of time
- Issue a document to release the horse from quarantine (if there was a set period)
- Issue a health certificate from the vet dept
Temporary Export
(when horses are going abroad to participate in an equestrian event and returning to Jordan)
- Ask for an appointment at the vet dept so that they can send their official vets to withdraw blood samples from your horses
- Bring along copies of the horse’s passports and their microchip numbers
- You will need an official invite from the organizers of the event you will be participating in (this invite must include horse’s names, microchip numbers, place and date of the competition, you can request this yourself or through RJEF)
- You will need a document from RJEF that allows your participation in the said event
- Issue a license for participating in the competition and the return of your horses from the Directorate of License and point of entry centers (at the MOA)
Other important info
- For permanent export: the horses must be present in Jordan for a period no less than 90 days
- For temporary import and export: the horses must adhere to the period that is set by the competition
- For re-export: horse must not exceed 30 days stay in Jordan
- Blood tests: are only valid for 21 days from the date of taking the blood samples
- The health certificate is only valid for 10 days from the date of its issue
- Health certificate fee: 2 JOD
- Quarantine document fee: 5 JOD
- Blood tests: no fees paid to the vets from the MOA, fees paid directly to testing lab. If you are late in paying these fees, your results will not be released
- Microchips can be obtained at RJEF offices and must be implanted into the horse by a certified vet
- Jordanian Horse passports and FEI passports can be obtained at RJEF offices (please see ‘Horse Documentation’ for more details)
- Vaccinations: horse vaccinations must be up to date and according to certain regulations. Please consult the FEI veterinary information online, or consult with you FEI veterinarian
